This Kampala city tour will take you to the capital and largest city of Uganda which sits on seven hills and divided into five divisions. You will have your first tour at Kabaka’s Lake the largest manmade lake in Uganda also harboring different bird species. Afterwards, you will head to Lubiri in Mengo a royal place for the king of Buganda kingdom that has much to offer about the history of the Baganda tribe. You will continue with your tour to Gaddafi National Mosque a colorful structure with its magnificent features of art built and designed based on a mixture of cultures. You will conclude your city tour with a visit to St. Balikuddembe Market which is the largest second-hand market in East Africa.

Detailed itinerary

Kabaka’s Lake

After your breakfast, you will be picked by one of our drivers then later set off for your 1 Day Kampala City Tour. Your tour will begin with Kabaka’s Lake located just 5kms from Kampala city Centre in Ndeeba. Generally, this is the largest man-made lake in Uganda and was constructed by the 52 Buganda clans. It was built under the orders of Kabaka Mwanga the Second between 1885 and 1888 to act as a connecting channel to Lake Victoria for his escape route. A visit to this lake will reward you with views of fascinating features like the two small islands, tree species hosting bird nests thus creating a beautiful scenery.

Kabaka’s Palace

After wards, you will head to Kabaka’a palace following a straight road lined with old candle nut trees locally known as “Kabaka Anjagala”. Just before the gate into the palace, you will be welcomed by a fire place locally known as “Kyoto ggombolola” whose fire never goes unless the King is dead. The walled fence enclosure is guarded by two guards and with a` help of a knowledgeable guide about this place, you will be more information. A number of various rituals will be explained before following the door steps to the military machinery used by fallen presidents Amin and Milton Obote when they attacked the palace in 1966. You will further continue down to “Empuuku” Amin’s torture chamber which he used during his reign of torture.

Gaddafi National Mosque

Later, you will proceed to Gaddafi National Mosque, a colorful structure with its magnificent features of art built and designed based on a mixture of cultures of Arab, European and an African touch. The Mosque is open to all people regardless of their religion, political affiliation, ethnic background, cultures or nationalities but on entrance ladies will be veiled as per Islamic custom. The mosque can accommodate over 35,000 people hence making it the biggest mosque in East, central and sub-Saharan Africa. On arrival, you will be introduced to your guide who will take you around and inside the mosque to admire its architectural designs as well as enjoy the history as told by the onsite guide. Furthermore, climbing the Tower gives you the best view of Kampala city at 360 degrees with its original surrounding of seven hills hence a great photographic opportunity. After that adventurous experience, you will walk to down town where you will have your local meal for lunch.

St.Balikuddembe Market

After lunch, you will visit the bustling St. Balikuddembe market in Kampala which is biggest in Uganda as well as East Africa. With your guide, you will be led to the some of the busiest spots told as you enjoy the history of the market. It is basically a hub for shoes, clothes, appliances and food bought and sold at regular intervals. After your experience of shopping in a crowned busy African Market, you will head back to your parked vehicle and later setoff back to the picked destination.
